Taking a Road Trip? First Complete these Maintenance Tasks
With the country fully reopening, it's especially tempting to hit the open road for a summertime adventure. Before you head out, you'll want to make sure that your vehicle is prepared to handle long stretches of driving in intense heat. At Phil and Son Auto Repair, we can expertly complete any kind of maintenance that your vehicle needs before you set out on your trip.
Important Road Trip Auto Maintenance Tasks
Certain maintenance tasks should be completed so your car is ready to handle the heat. During cooling system service, we'll make sure that all aspects of this system are working properly, which will minimize the risk of your engine incurring serious damage due to overheating. Coolant generally needs to be exchanged every 30,000 miles, but you can check your owner's manual for your car's exact needs. AC service is another way to help your car keep the heat in check. When we do AC service, we'll check over the whole AC system and make sure that all components are functioning efficiently. A healthy AC system will play a central role in keeping your family happy when the heat turns scorching.
It's also a good idea to complete certain safety tasks before you leave. During brake service, we'll inspect your braking system and replace pads if needed. If we find any major brake problems, we can promptly fix them---and are happy to provide an estimate before doing any extensive work. Another important safety measure is to check tire pressure, which is generally supposed to be somewhere between 30 and 35 psi. It's worth checking your tires' exact pressure specifications and then inflating them as necessary. With correct tire pressure, there will be less risk of a blowout. A cheap and easy way to enhance safety is by replacing worn-out wiper blades. If a thunderstorm suddenly starts pouring torrential rains over the highway, your new wiper blades will do a superior job of providing you with a safe field of vision through your windshield.
